A unique mountain bike holiday in South Africa and Botswana full of incredible contrasts including a luxury mountain lodge, thrilling singletrack riding, vast African wilderness and intimate wildlife viewing.Following arrival in Johannesburg we’ll head to the famed Mt. Anderson. Situated at 2000m in the dramatic Drakensberg Mountains above the town of Sabie and west of the world famous Kruger National Park, we’ll be in a truly breathtaking setting for our first few days of the trip. Our riding during these initial days takes in some great routes including the Bushmans Trail and Goldrush as we explore the old mining trails around Mt. Anderson and affords us some great wildlife spotting opportunities. The riding is rewarding, with frequent rocky technical challenges. Our final ride here is a real gem and finishes at a wonderful mountain lodge, just perfect for highland vistas!A transfer mid-point of the trip takes us over the border to Botswana and The Land of the Giants - Mashatu. This is the largest privately owned game reserve in Africa and is dominated by open savannah and the thick river vegetation of the mighty Limpopo River. Our accommodation here is in wilderness camps, set up prior to your arrival, which offer good comfort without distracting from a true wilderness experience! The riding is a relaxed affair and we’ll often encounter elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and occasionally see lions and leopards. There will of course be a back-up vehicle and armed riding guides with us at all times. During the time in Mashatu we will undertake a game drive to ensure you get the very most of this incredible area and see these elusive animals up close.Accommodation has been kept to a very high standard throughout this trip, with almost all meals included in the price. Combine this with top biking trails lots of wildlife spotting and we’ve the experience of a lifetime for you; and all by bike!If our set dates don't work we can offer the trip on any Wednesday year round, just give us a call for details.

Truly memorable trip
Our guides were polite and engaging. The food and drink at Mount Anderson lodge was stunning. The camp site then struggled to match the quality – understandably – but was still very good.
This is the third biking holiday I have been on with Skeddadle and must say the best.
Mount Anderson was outstanding accommodation. The first four days were a grade 4 mountain terrain, very hard. The following four days through the open plains of Botswana grade 3 and relaxing. Don’t think I would change anything though, most enjoyable.
Loved every minute!
I was really impressed. Food was outstanding-and so much of it! Our Tour Leader Alistair took an interest in everyone there and was totally committed to giving us a brilliant time. Trent and Joe were brilliant guides, inspiring in their knowledge and understanding of the area and so interesting to talk with. We were so well looked after.
Excellent tour leader and guides. Cycling at Mashatu was great fun. Lovely rolling along in warm sunshine, some fun tracks. We saw all the “big” stuff one might hope -lion, cheetah and leopard on one game drive – but almost enjoyed the unexpected more – the banded mongoose and the as yet unidentified mouse like creature up among the rocks!
The mountain biking on the first two days at Mount Anderson is really good. Our guide was a real star!
Both our guides were absolutely awesome. They have gone above and beyond what could be reasonably expected to make the trip safe—and fun! The best day was when we saw 3 cats (lions, cheetahs and leopard) on the way to/from the sundowner…
One of the most beautiful skedaddle holidays we have been on. The wildlife along our cycle rides was amazing.

I would highly recommend this trip to anyone...
I have had an amazing holiday – I can’t believe how wonderful it was to bike in a game park. I don’t think I’ve ever returned from a holiday before feeling as though i could do it all again tomorrow.
The accommodation at mount Anderson is beautiful and we were treated like royalty with excellent food. Camping in Botswana was very exciting with animals close to the camp site.
2 giraffes not 30 yards away posing for us...
Mount Anderson ranch is in a league of its own for attention to detail, someone even came and turned on our electric blankets every night, not usual for an adventure holiday! Camping was spot on, comfy tents and beds but it still felt like a wilderness experience. The last night in the stockade was quirky and enormous fun. Hot showers too….
The first 10 minutes cycling in Mashatu were dizzyingly exciting. Trying to get to grips with the terrain, follow (keep up with!) Joe and see the animals all at once…and then 2 giraffes not 30 yards away posing for us, I come out in goose bumps thinking about it.
Al is the consummate professional and a real gentleman, without hiding his personality. He kept things under control without nagging, a real art. I felt very safe with his driving. I was most grateful for his patient mtb coaching as I am a relative novice, and this meant my husband could stay with the pack without fretting about me. Al gave me a lot of confidence to tackle difficult stuff and this really added to my enjoyment of the holiday. He clearly knew Trent and Joe well and they all worked as a team, this stuff shows and it makes a difference.
One of the best cycling holidays in over 30 years of travelling...
I thought it could not get better, food is camp cooked but really excellent but the addition of cycling on elephant trails, close contact with animals (elephant, girafe, antelope, lions, hyenas, zebra) really made this something special. I could not recommend this highly enough to anyone who is looking for a MTB holiday.
The accomodation on this holiday is exceptionally good, the Mt. Anderson lodge is hard to beat. My room had two double beds, two bathrooms, etc. Food and main lodge facilities are excellent. Very friendly staff and a fantastic location. A real highlight of the holiday was the food, a good mix of local and stuff you were familiar with. Meals were varied and plentiful.
This is a unique oppertunity to combine cycling and an african widelife reserve. The first part of the holiday is first class luxury mountain biking high quality trail riding with good views of african safari animals. The cycling at Mashatu is really good fun, flowy trails with some sandy spots. Being on a bike give you much better views of the wildlife simply because you can access more of the reserve than a truck.
I enjoyed this trip so much!
This really did exceed your descriptions. There’s something about being 10 metres from a lion that’s really interesting! The cycling was excellent and the local staff could not have done more to help!
I would definitely recommend Skedaddle to friends and family! It was the most amazing holiday I have ever been on!
Excellent variety of wildlife...
The accommodation in Mount Anderson excellent quality – even better than I was expecting!
The amount of wildlife seen was excellent and much better than I expected, both in terms of what we saw and how close it was!
Overall this holiday was much better than I expected in terms of its variety and the extent of wildlife seen. I worry if I go on another Safari holiday I will be disappointed!
Amazing food & wilderness camping...
Overall really good holiday, really liked that it sort of split into two and they were so different. The food was amazing, and I loved the wilderness camping!

Few cyclists can say they’ve been up close and personal with some of the worlds most magnificent (not to mention pre-historic) animals. One such Skedaddler, Victor Dvortsov, is one of the lucky ones amongst us who can say he definitely has!
