We will be back for more!
This was our first self guided mountain bike holiday and we will be back for more. The Sandstone Way is a mix of quiet roads and tracks with the odd bit of single track. It’s a great way to get out into the wilds of Northumberland from the North Sea coast to the Cheviot Hills. Favourite cake stops were at Chillingham Castle, and the Rose and Thistle in Alwinton (which doesn’t sell cake but will make you steamed pudding with custard). Skedaddle organised everything very well, meaning we could concentrate on the riding. When things went wrong and a rear mech hanger snapped, they organised a mechanic to get us back underway. Would recommend this ride to anyone who likes to ride out in the wild.
Fine views and fun riding
I do think the prices are on the expensive side, having said that you get what you pay for – the good accommodation, guides, systems, food etc. It leans towards the luxury end of the market from my perspective and as a customer it is my decision if I want that in a particular holiday. For me it would be a ‘treat’ holiday and not something I could do regularly..When that is what I want then it is very well delivered by Saddle Skedaddle. What is well worth the money is the guaranteed standards. As a lone female that is sometimes a worry but not with Saddle Skedaddle.
All three days were good, helped by the great weather. The middle day was an enjoyable challenge!
I loved it all – great variety of riding, plenty of challenge and beautiful views. The constant sunshine helped a lot too! It was great to cover such a long distance over the 3 days – I surprised myself by just how many miles I could cover on a mountain bike (fuelled by the amazing and very plentiful snack stops!).
There was such variety every day that it’s difficult to pick a favourite but the challenge of completing the 50 miles on Sunday was rewarding. I had not previously realised the beauty of the Northumberland countryside.
The service provided I could not fault
I enjoyed the whole skedaddle weekend ,the ride was described as moderate in mountain bike terms would be tough for the average rider. It was well planned in stages with loads of refreshment stops and breaks which helped to get everybody through. I was very impressed with the buffet lunch provided by the lads…...
