Holiday Information

Seemingly floating in the mid-Atlantic more than 1,000 miles west of Lisbon, Sao Miguel island is the largest and arguably the most beautiful of the 9 islands comprising the autonomous Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. At only 38 miles long and just under 10 miles wide at its widest point, Sao Miguel isn't an enormous island. But don't be put off by its small size, with its extensive road network accessing some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable, it punches way above its weight as a road cycling destination.
A land of varied terrain, the Azores is certainly not short on challenges and our journey is packed full of amazing road cycling surprises. Pretty country lanes winding throughrolling green dairy farm pastures may be reminiscent of the British countryside but they give no hint of the dramatic landscape that lies in the island's interior. Leave the pastures, climb a hill, turn a few bends and we find ourselves in a volcanic landscape clad with exotic vegetation which wouldn’t look out of place in a scene from Jurassic Park. As our journey continues we'll also explore many of the island's volcanic craters and the beautiful lakes that have formed within them, of course paying a visit to the world-famous Sete Cidades (Seven Cities) lagoon where we will spend some time soaking up its incredible natural beauty. We'll also explore the island's dramatic northern coastline, unique its own way, supporting Europe's only tea plantations.
Aside from fantastic cycling, São Miguel has much to offer including a pleasant, welcoming climate, a warm and friendly local population, a unique cuisine, high quality accommodation and some of the world's best whale watching opportunities.
