Holiday Information

This cycling holiday in Austria takes place in the foothills of the Alps. The soft countryside around Salzburg provided the inspiration for the classic film The Sound of Music, and what could be more enjoyable than biking along the shoreline paths of clear lakes in such wonderfully unspoilt countryside? Our trip explores the region of Salzkammergut and the Trumer Lakes and you'll be cycling through emerald green pastures and mighty forests, with the dramatic backdrop of Alpine peaks.

The beautiful, cultural city of Salzburg, Mozart's home town, is your start and finish point for this cycling holiday. The route takes you through the ‘Silent Night’ town of Oberndorf and the Austrian Emperor's summer residence in Bad Ischl. The region's historical wealth comes from its salt mines and trading, this is reflected in the picture postcard towns and villages on the lakes through which you'll pass.

This gentle to moderate route follows mainly dedicated cycle paths, lakeside routes and country lanes. There are some short climbs, a train ride, and even a short section on foot whilst your bike is transferred to the top of the hill; this provides a stunning downhill ride through a picturesque gorge back to Salzburg.

If you're interested in doing this holiday with children, then check out the family version of the trip, where you may find the information more relevant to your needs.
