A gently paced self-guided, family cycling holiday in Germany exploring the lakes of Bavaria. Enjoy your time cycling through tranquil, secluded valleys and lush alpine scenery with the ever-present dramatic backdrop of the Karwende massif. This holiday starts and finishes in Munich, which is easily accessed from airports throughout the UK and Europe. Suitable for families with older children, with only a few short climbs where you can walk if you wish.
On a combination of cycle paths and quiet roads you meander along lake shores and through valleys with unspoilt natural beauty. Cycling through various ancient, picturesque Bavarian villages and towns, such as the richly decorated town of Bad Tolz and the village of Wallgau, will give you an insight into the local traditional way of life. Your ride will take you along the River Loisach through the Murnauer Moos nature reserve to the Winter Olympic Games town of Garmisch Partenkirchen. Here you can leave your bikes behind and take a cable car up Germany’s highest mountain, Zugspitze, from where there are breath-taking views of the surrounding Alps. Contact us with your preferred dates and and let Skedaddle show you the best way to enjoy a cycling holiday with your family in Germany. If you're planning on doing this trip without children then take a look at the self-guided leisure version of the tour where you may find the information more relevant to your needs.

Is this holiday suitable for your family?

This trip is designed for families who cycle regularly and are looking to enjoy more on a family cycling holiday. The trip is place to place, so your children must be able to cycle the distances stated on the dossier. The terrain is relatively flat, however there are some small climbs along the way. There are plenty of other activities to look out for during the day’s cycle, with places of interest to take a break and keep the children entertained to break up the cycling. Emergency backup is available from the local team, but it’s best if you‘re happy and comfortable fixing common issues like punctures.
